Let’s Get Outside

Let’s get outside to enjoy the great summer weather.

Create a backyard log book.

The backyard log book is great all year round. In the book you can document the weather every day, what bugs and animals you’ve found, what plants are growing and blooming.

Draw a map of your backyard on the front page. You can use this to reference when you write notes about areas in your yard.

To make a log book is very easy. We use a spiral notebook or a three ring binder with loose leaf paper. With the binder you can add more paper or art you’ve created of the backyard.

The boys draw pictures of what they’ve found. They draw treasure maps, write stories and collect leaves and flowers. The uses for your log are endless.

Since were outside and getting active you’ll need to keep your energy up.

Awesome Energy Bar

What you’ll need:

½ cup peanut butter

¼ cup margarine

1 bag miniature marshmallows

2 ½ cups Cheerios

1 ½ cups Rice Krispies

½ cup raisins

½ cup peanuts

½ cup chocolate chips

Buttered 13×9 pan

What to do:

Melt peanut butter, margarine, and marshmallows in a microwave safe bowl.

Place cereals, raisins and peanuts in a large bowl.

Stir in peanut butter mixture and mix well.

Press into a buttered 13×9 pan.

Cut in to bars.

Cool and Enjoy.

This recipe is great if you have little ones you don’t want to get close to a fire or if you don’t have a fire pit in your back yard. You’ll still get that great camp out feeling.

No Bake S’mores

What you’ll need:

Graham crackers

Large marshmallows

Chocolate frosting

What to do:

Break each cracker into four sections and spread chocolate frosting on each.

Cut marshmallows in half and place one half on a cracker

Then place other frosted cracker on top. Now you have a s’more.

You can store in an airtight container but the crackers will soften up.

Running around and getting wet are pass times most kids can’t get enough of during the summer. My boys like water guns but they run out of water way to fast so we use water bottles. Water bottles come in all sizes and colors which makes them even more fun. When the boys aren’t using the bottles to get each other wet, they use them to water plants or to shoot flies off the side of the shed. The water bottles have a ton of fun packed into them.

Spray Bottle Tag

This game uses the same rules as regular tag but instead of having to touch someone with your hand you need to get them with a spray of water.

Here are the fun holidays for this week:

18th – International Sushi Day

20th – American Eagle Day

Summer Solstice Day

23rd – Great American Backyard Camp out Day

24th – International Fairy Day

Have a great week.
